Microformats and Address Tips

This version of the BlueOrganizer features support for Microformats - a popular and simple technology for embedding semantics into HTML pages. For the end user, this means that BlueOrganizer is able to better recognize things in the pages - people, locations, events and tags. The support for microformats is part of a broader micro-context recognition inside BlueOrganizer. For example, even if the page does not contain hCard (a microformat for contact information), the BlueOrganizer would still recognize over 500 of the most common names and would give you a contextual menu for a person. Similarly, BlueOrganizer recognizes addresses even if there are no geo annotations in the pages. Lets take a look at the support for specific microformats.

hCard Support

hCard is the microformat for describing contact information. It typically includes a person's name, address, email and home page. BlueOrganizer recognizes hCard annotation in web pages and gives you a contextual Person tooltip as shown below.

Note that the tip appears when you select any text in the contact area, so your selection does not need to be exact. When you right-click the context menu is going to feature a special Person menu, with shortcuts based on the information in the hCard. If there are email or home page links, they will appear in the menu. In addition you will be able to look up this person around the web - on Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, etc.

addr and Address Support

BlueOrganizer recognizes elements of the addr microformat. Specifically, region and locality combinations that are used in many online photo sites. For example, this photo on Flickr contains a section called Additional Information, on the bottom right. The section has information of where the photo was taken. You can highlight a piece of text there to get the Address/Location tip and Smart Menu as shown below. Please also note that there will be additional options in BlueOrganizer toolbar for geo tagged photos, such as looking up similar photos on Flickr Places.

In addition to microformat address notation, BlueOrganizer recognizes majority of US addresses on any web page. It works in a similar way - you need to highlight a piece of the address to get the address menu. To get the example below, navigate to this contact page and highlight Broadway. The Address tip will appear and you will be able to get the address menu with shortcuts to Map, Weather, Movies, Restaurants and more.

hCalendar Support

BlueOrganizer recognizes hCalendar microformat used for describing events. When you select a piece of text which is part of the event description, the Event tip will come up and you will get Event specific menu, which will, for example, help you add the event to Google calendar. You can try this for example, on this page.
